Streaky Bay to Adelaide
On our last night at Streaky bay we discovered that the International rules game was on at Adelaide oval the following afternoon. For those of you that are not aware of what this is, it is International Rules Series that is a hybrid between Australian Rules Football and the Irish game, Gaelic Football. The International Rules Series is a two game series held each year between a team of AFL players and Gaelic Football players. It sounded too good to miss so we had a late night packing up in preparation for the 8 hour drive early the next morning. We had a 5 AM start and were on the road quite early. We dodged a few 'roos between Streaky Bay and Poochera but apart from that it was an uneventful trip, until...
During a routine pitstop it became aware to us that the wheel bearing issues we faced in Geraldton had resurfaced. The grease that was in the bearing that had the faulty seal had overheated and we were not able to clean it out at all. We just attempted to pack new fresh grease in to the bearings, we thought this might be good enough, and it was for a few thousand kilometres. We decided again instead of cleaning the old grease out of the bearing to simply replace the bearings with an old set that were still ok that we were keeping as a spare. Being that these ones had already been cleaned we only had to pack them with grease and install them and we were back on the road. Still having the old bearings full of worn out grease in a plastic bag as a spare if needed. We were able to make the repair in the roadhouse carpark at Port Augusta and only lost about half an hour. We were still on time for the footy, just!
We made it to Adelaide by 2.30 After checking in and unhooking the trailer at the caravan park we made our way to the oval. It was only a 20 minute drive into the city and found parking reasonably close to the oval. We picked up our tickets and made it to our seats via the bar with about half an hour to spare before the game. The attendance numbers were around 25000. The crowd was reasonably quiet which we put down to people being unsure of the rules. One of the best things about the game was seeing some great players from the AFL such as Ben Brown, Eddie Betts, Rory Sloan and Nat Fyfe but unfortunately there were no Saints players (last year Leigh Montagna and Nick Reidwolt played). Both the matches this year are in Perth and Adelaide so the team mostly seemed to be made up of West Australian and South Australian players.
After the game we decided that it would be easier to go out for dinner as neither of us felt like cooking. So Italian it was.
In Adelaide we stayed at the Highway 1 Caravan Park, Bolivar. The park was fantastic, brand new amenities, perfectly clean. Very happily stay here again.
We did a bit of Caravan shopping around Adelaide. Didn't find too much that fits our requirements unfortunately.

Adelaide Oval - IRS Test 1, 2017. Australia Won! If you look closely you can see a cathedral between the scoreboard and the light tower. This was as close as we got to checking out the churches of the "city of churches".
